Fantasia At The Fair

27Jul14

A recent trip to a local fair proved to be a fun photo op. The real treat came when sunset arrived in a brilliant display against the decorative rides and colorful lights. After nightfall the lit up rides provided a great subject for night photography and abstract motion blurs. A tripod was needed for the long exposures ranging from 2 to 15 seconds.

    WOW, WOW and WOW!!!

  2. Beautifully captured. Really colorful. It’s amazing what lit objects you can photograph at a fair.

  3. Overload of neon lights for sure. Fun time great shots. You forgot to post the cat in the baby stroller.

  4. Fantastic shots!

  5. Great captures – these small fairs still have a charm to them and your renderings work to convey that.

  6. A very interesting post and, of course, lovely photos. Thank you!

  7. These are outstanding, I love them

  8. How do you like the ‘new’venue, seems much easier to move around. Your motion captures really came out well… the diff time exposures show what is possible with just setting the time… and… a very big AND, the photog’s eye for composition. It seems so hard to stress this point with new SJCC members. I wish they would view and study other accomplished members such as yourself… I know I still do🙂

  9. Absolutely love these, Denise! Magical!

  10. Really fantastic! A few notches above the typical nighttime amusement park fare. They’re having the Ventura County Fair next week, and you’ve inspired me to take my camera.

    Beautiful work as usual Denise!

  12. Well, it looks like you certainly had fun at the fair! These all look great!

  13. Excellent, excellent work! Great colors, great sense of timing. Thanks for the post.

LOVE your night at the fair!!! Each one is more spectacular. You out did yourself with these. More, more, more

  15. I love these photos, Denise!

  16. I’ve heard you talk many times about the Wow! factor in images. If I had to define that for some one I’d show them these image, particularly 1, 2, and 7.
My instinctive response was OMG; after that, Deb has it right.

BTW, nary a waterfall or a delapidated barns or a lonely bog.

    • I’m glad these made an impact for you. I guess you could say that these are ‘in your face’ images! I am thinking about this in relation to the article Mike P. posted with regard to quiet images. I am especially happy with the first one and will need to print and frame it.

  17. Great job Denise. I especially like the first two. No two being my favorite. What I noticed about the shots is how clean the background is. I guess that is the advantage of shooting the rides in the middle of a field without all of the other rides in the way!🙂

    • Thanks Pat. The rides didn’t seem spread out more than normal but the swing was in a good place to take advantage of the sunset.

  18. These are absolutely stunning!

  19. Great captures! A true fantasy land!
