Colorado Autumn – Part V

This post will conclude my ‘Colorado Autumn’ series. Mother Nature is telling me that it’s time to move on… the leaves have fallen from the trees and there’s snow on the the high peaks. Soon it will be winter and there will be new subjects to photograph.

Colorado Autumn – Part IV

The second half of my Colorado autumn was just as colorful as the first half. I got out as much as I could in the mornings and evenings. Since I am still learning the lay of the land my adventures were sometimes no more than exploring and scouting. This is a beautiful but rugged place… subject to its own unique, photography challenges. Mother Nature is unpredictable here… clouds come and go and so does the weather with blue skies prevailing. At sunrise the light takes a little longer to come up over the mountains and at sunset it may disappear sooner than expected. Leaves are falling and signs of winter are here. Snow comes early to the high peaks and makes a beautiful accent to the already beautiful scenery. My next post and last in my ‘Colorado Autumn’ series will feature a few of these. Thanks very much for visiting!

Aspen Interlude

This is my first fall in Colorado and I was somewhat surprised by the number of people that flock to the Western Slopes to photograph the colorful and dramatic scenery. I met a number of photographers (and dogs) at my various stops. Some lived as close as my new hometown of Ridgway, many were from the front range near Denver and some lived as far away as Switzerland. It was fun meeting everyone, hearing their stories and sometimes sharing tips on where to go. With that said, there is also a benefit to photographing alone. The images in this post are from a recent shoot in a lovely aspen grove… all by myself. Here I was able to get into ‘the zone’… a sort of zen-like experience. Without distractions and outside influences I was in the moment, totally immersed in the trees and captures. It was a very enjoyable morning!

Several of these images are available as prints (framed, matted or unframed), canvas wraps, notecards and more! See the great selection of framing and other options by clicking on the links below the images. If you would like something not yet available, please let me know in the comment area and I will be glad to upload it for you.

Colorado Autumn – Part III

I have been putting processing my images on the back burner these last few weeks. Since the autumn foliage won’t last forever I decided to spend my energy shooting… I can always work with the shots later. The images in this post were captured near Telluride which is becoming one of my favorite ‘go to’ areas. You may be wondering if the golds are really this vibrant and the answer is yes! If I wasn’t here to witness how brilliant these trees can look with the right lighting I might not believe it myself. I took my time photographing this first scene making several compositions… horizontal, vertical, wide, zoomed, etc. and had a hard time picking a favorite. I was pleased to find a great spot where I can see 360 degrees. The last three images are all from ‘my spot’ on the same evening. To the north a colorful plume sprang from a nearby mountain while the sun was setting to the west and the moon was rising to the east. What a fun night I had shooting in all directions while listening to the elk bugle in the valley below!
