Winter Painted Skies

Being at the right place at the right time is something all landscape photographers hope for! I love being out there to see what the sky is going to do at sunrise and sunset. However, it’s quite often that I come home with nothing to be excited about. I always remind myself that it’s a matter of going out and being ready. Persistence is always rewarded … sooner or later! Here are some awesome skies I’ve had the privilege to witness in 2019.

  6. Gorgeous!

  7. Wonderful images.

  8. Beautiful images.

  9. I think that is like winning a lotto ticket when you just come out at the right time, every thing is just perfect. I think that is the first step in landscape photography.. I have heard from one landscape photog. that he went out and wait for the right moment.

    These are beautiful pictures!

  10. Thank you for sharing your images, these are truly beautiful.

Glorious mountains and skies. So worth it for me, you getting out there and getting those images. Thank you!

Fantastic Denise! It’s amazing the colors that Mother Nature paints our world, we just need to pay attention. You capture it beautifully!

    • Thank you Deb. I pay a lot of attention to the sky and clouds … they need to be balanced and have good shapes or patterns. There were several outings that did not make the cut!

  13. Awesome captures filled with great color.

    Unbelievably beautiful Denise!

  15. All spectacular, Denise! Always a pleasure to see through your lens!

  16. Stunning shots, Denise. I especially love the top 3.

  17. Wonderful. I’m glad you resisted the urge to add more “punch” and saturation to the skies – which would be tempting I guess (at least for me;-). Wonderful subtlety that does the scenery justice. Really well done!

    • Thanks Alexander. I try to keep a scene real and how I remember. When comparing the raw files to the final image one can see the enhancements.

  18. You have seen and photographed so many beautiful skies so far. I hope there are many more for you see this year.

    • Where I can go in the winter is limited so I’ve focused on catching some sunsets … which I think are especially pretty in winter and with snow. Thanks for your visit and comment.

  19. “Being at the right place at the right time is something all landscape photographers hope for” – but it’s the ones who take it seriously who go to the effort of planning and timing so they can achieve it. Alas, I’m not usually that serious. It’s good that you are.

    • Thank you for the visit and comment Dave! Everyone has their niche´ and you have yours! I get to feeling lazy sometimes but staying home never feels as good as experiencing moments like these.

  20. Beautiful series, Denise – those pink skies look good enough to eat! 😉

  21. And the year has barely begun! I love all those pinks, they are gorgeous. The first one is great, and there’s something about Wintry Mountain Sunset that gets me – it carries the stark cold across well, without any extra drama. It seems very real somehow. Not that they all don’t!

  22. Amazing photos. I really like it.
