The Importance Of Clouds
Clouds have the potential to add what’s missing from a scene. And, sometimes it’s the clouds that play a leading role in landscape imagery. If not a leading role, they are very often a strong supporting one. For me, clouds can make or break an image. I look for cloud balance when framing. Clouds that […]

On one of this week’s photo adventures I found myself out in the open during an afternoon of scattered showers. Being able to witness (and feel a part of) the dynamic weather was exhilarating! I was not only excited by the visuals but relieved to get some rain in our drought-stricken part of Colorado. In […]

Heavenly Heights
In the winter my attention often turns to the mountain peaks. It’s when I find them most beautiful, coated in white, the snow accenting their rugged beauty. When the clouds roll in, usually from the west, or lift after a snow storm I think, ‘this is what heaven must look like’!

It’s not just the Milky Way and stars that interest me but moonlit and cloudy night skies too. Working with different settings and locations, it’s a work in progress … with several attempts […]

OMG Sunset!
The early evening rain of late has made for some interesting and colorful skies here on the Western Slopes of Colorado. Traveling down a dirt road looking for worthy photo subjects I saw clouds glowing in the distance. I hurried to get to this spot where I’d have a clear view of the mountains. Arriving […]

Valley Variations
When I’m photographing in an area I feel a strong connection with, I like to slow down, immerse myself and really explore the options. Usually I’ll post just a couple of favorites from a particular scene but here I’m displaying more… to show how I worked it. The clouds, rock formations, meadow and trees allowed […]
