Finding More Fall

I’m continuing to ‘find more fall’ and this post is another mix of autumn images. Beauty abounds and the area is busy with photographers from parts near and far, working to capture a piece of that beauty. I can relate to all those photographers as I too was once someone who would often travel for more scenic opportunities. Yes … I am very grateful to live where I can enjoy such wonderful scenery. It still takes work and I do consider it my job … one where I can happily put my skills (and determination) to work! Among the expansive landscape I enjoy finding smaller, intimate scenes like some I’ve posted here. I look to find aspen groupings that have an arrangement I can isolate and frame to create a pleasing composition. A walk to a less populated side of a lake provided opportunities to explore interesting reflections, instead of the overall view most come to capture and take home. I am always looking for subjects and compositions within the landscape that call out to me, and autumn is a time when that happens often!

Some Summertime Scenes

Summer just goes too fast … doesn’t it? Here in the mountains it goes especially fast, with snow possible so early, and winter lasting so long. What’s making it even shorter this year for photography are the all too frequent smoky skies, from fires in states west of Colorado. At times, and as I write this, the mountains are not visible … not at all like the clear, blue sky scenes shown here! It all depends on how the wind blows so getting out on days when the conditions are more favorable is key. Still, summer feels especially good to me this year. With jeep roads clear of snow, being able to experience the high country is the highlight of the season. I added a few (less scary) jeep roads to my solo ventures and had a lot of fun. I explored other high places with my husband as driver, visiting some that had been on my list for awhile, including the pond location shown here. Well, even though I am already seeing signs of fall, summer is not over … the last day is September 22nd. I do hope conditions will improve soon so I can get back out there!

Reflecting Autumn

Many landscape photographers love reflections and I am one among them. This fall I visited a nearby lake on four different mornings, hoping to capture the scene with the perfect sky. It is a popular spot this time of year with other photographers from near and far. The surrounding slopes are filled with beautiful aspen trees and Red Mountain II & III are just beyond the opposite bank. When the wind is calm a beautiful reflection completes the picture. In this post I will show you several examples of how conditions impacted the scene … some of the changes are subtle but make a difference. I also found other interesting reflections that may be a little more unique. Reflecting on fall … I’d say it has been a good one!

The End Is Near

Part V – Day Four
On our last full day in the Adirondacks we were greeted with a dramatic light show. The fog and colors of sunrise changed quickly from one moment to the next keeping our shutters busy. Whiteface Mountain was exposed only for a short time before it was blanketed by the fog rolling across the lake. After breakfast we visited our barn again to capture it in the cloudy, diffused light we were presented with on this day. On our way to the Tupper Lake area we went to a spot where we could see what is referred to as the ‘high peaks’. Along our travels we stopped at a swamp that caught our eye before coming to a spot where some kayakers were setting off for an adventure all their own. Tupper Lake was outlined with vibrant autumn color and the ‘little island’ pictured below was a highlight for all. It started to rain and I was having trouble keeping my eyes open while my friend shuttled us back to our hotel in the dreary weather. That night we had one last dinner together before heading home the next morning. Looking back it seemed like a long time ago that we had started our adventure in Schroon Lake, even though it had only been a few days.
